Fraser-Pryce Defeats Campbell-Brown

The much anticipated 100-meter clash between Jamaicans Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell-Brown materialized today at the 39th annual edition of the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, with Frazer-Pryce taking the top spot.

Frazer-Pryce, the two-time Olympic 100-meter champion, flew out of the blocks with her signature bullet start and could not be caught by the fast-finishing Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria and Campbell-Brown. She hit the tape in 10.71 seconds (2.2m/s) with Okagbare (10.75) separating Campbell-Brown (10.78) from her. Kerron Stewart, Jamaica’s 2008 Olympic 100-meter silver medalist, was fourth in 10.97.

Nick-named the Pocket Rocket, Fraser-Pryce said she was using the meet to fine-tune some areas of her race for her next competition at the Jamaica Trials later this month.

Rounding out the field were Murielle Ahoure of the Ivory Coast (10.98), Ana Claudia Lemos Silva of Brazil (11.06), and the US pair of Allyson Felix (11.07) and Barbara Pierre (11.10).
