Goule makes World Champs Standard

Louisiana State’s Natoya Goule made the qualifying standard for the 2013 IAAF Worl Championships in Athletics after posting a personal best 1:59.58 to win the women’s 800m at the Jamaica National Championships in Kingston on Saturday.

Goule,  who recently missed out on the mark in taking the 800m title at the NCAA Division One Track and Field Championships in late May in 2:00.06, started out in front and finished the first lap 20 metres from the pack before powering away in the final 90 metres to rousing cheers from spectators to stop the clock with 100th of a second to spare for this year’s world championships in Moscow, Russia.

Arkansas’ Kemoy Campbell who has also been gunning to make the IAAF qualifying standard this seasons claimed the men’s 5000m in 13:43.20 bettering the 13:45.85 he ran earlier this season.

Campbell finished ahead of Roger Allen of Mavis Banki n 16:30.99.
