Powell Rebounds in Ostrava

Asafa Powell rebounded from his disappointing 7th place finish at the Jamaica Trials last week to win the 100m dash twice in 30 minutes at yesterday’s Ostrava Golden Spike meet in the Czech Republic.

The 30-yr-old first won the race in 9.97sec, but due to a false start, referees called back the runners when they were more than halfway through the race. On the rerun half-an-hour later, Powell clocked 10.06secs (-0.5/s) to defeat veteran Kim Collins of St. Kitts and Nevis (10.06) and Mike Rogers of the USA (10.16).

At the same meet, Jamaica’s Andrea Bliss placed third in the women’s sprint hurdles with 13.03 (+0.9/s). The race was won by World and Olympic champion Sally Pearson of Australia in 12.67.

In the longer hurdles. Ristananna  Tracey of Jamaica was fifth in 55.98. Zuzana Hejnova of the Czech Republic won in 53.32.
