Kingston College's hope of capturing the boys title received a big major setback after an injury to Amonire Crossdale during the Class Two long jump final at the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Championships at the National Stadium yesterday.
Crossdale suffered a rupture of the semitendinosus (hamstring muscle), which ruled him out for the rest of the meet. The athlete was also down to compete in the triple jump and his loss is expected to be a terrible blow for Kingston College, who could lose points.
KC's head coach, Michael Russell, was obviously disappointed that the athlete was injured.
"It's a rupture of the hamstring muscle, which would rule him out of the championships," he told Star Sports.
"He was injured during his first attempt in the long jump final. He has been the top long jumper from KC this season. It will be somewhat of a loss for us," he said.
Russell was, however, not sure the impact Crossdale's injury could have on KC's chance of winning the title. "I don't know if it will hurt us, but losing 12 points because of the injury, we would have to look elsewhere to see where we can get points," he said.
