Bolt wins 100m at Jamaican Championships - Powell misses WC team

Bolt takes 100m at Jamaican Trials

World record holder Usain Bolt cruised to victory in the men’s 100m at the Jamaica Senior Athletics Championships in Kingston on Friday evening.

Bolt who posted 10.03 seconds in winning the first of the semi-finals pulled ahead mid-race to post 9.94 seconds for victory ahead of his Racer’s Track Club team mate Kemar Bailey-Cole in 9.98 seconds and Nickel Ashmeade in 9.99 seconds.

The story of the evening however was former world record holder Asafa Powell who failed to make a Jamaican Worl Championships team for the first time in his career after finishing seventh in the event in a time of 10.22 secnds.

Powell has been struggling with a hamstring injury since last year’s Olympic Games in London where he pulled up in the men’s 100m final.

The athlete had earlier run 10.05 seconds to finish third in his semifinal heat.

Kerron Stewart won the 100m at the Jamaican championships for the first time after a brilliant run pulling away from MVP’s Sherone Simpson in the final metres to win in a time of 10.96 ahead of Simpson’s 11.03.

Schillonie Calvert of Racers was third in a time of 11.07 seconds.
